Hello, We are posting this ad in the chance that someone may be able to help us. Our non-profit organization was founded by our grandson, Pat Pedraja. At 10 years old, Pat was diagnosed with leukemia (a.l.l.). We are located in Palm Harbor, FL
Pat did not need a marrow or stem cell transplant, but while he was undergoing chemotherapy at St. Joseph’s Children’s hospital, Pat learned of a child who died because she did not receive a marrow transplant from a matching donor. He decided to do something about it.
In 2006, Pat founded “Driving For Donors,” and with the donated use of an RV/Donor-mobile, drove around the country and signed up over 6,000 marrow donors; three times his original goal. For his efforts he was selected as the CNN Hero of the Year in 2007.
Pat started high school last year and asked his grandparents (us) to continue an annual “Driving For Donors” campaign. To date we have enrolled over 22,000 donors and have save 25 lives so far.
Our work has come to an abrupt halt! Earlier in March, as per our agreement with the donor of the RV, we had to return the unit to them.
Here is the long shot - Do you know of anyone who would be willing to donate an RV to our non-profit charity? Our wish list is a Class A motor home, 35‘ to 40’, gas or diesel, with a few good miles let in ‘er. We carry a lot of supplies and hardware with us on our drives and to save expenses, we stay in the RV rather than expensive hotels.
We are sending an appeal to as many people as we can. The benefits of a donation are; donation is tax deductible. Our EIN is 80-0484457. Also the donor will get the satisfaction of knowing that their donated RV will go directly to save the lives of children with blood cancers and blood disorders.
