We’ve settled in our “retirement” home in Crawford, Colorado and it’s time to sell our 1999 Monaco Diplomat 38A. We lived full time in this motor home very comfortably in several kinds of weather situations. The heated water compartment kept everything working nicely when we ran into a spring blizzard in Colorado. There is an abundance of storage space inside this motor home and the cargo bays are large. There’s plenty of room for everything a “full timer” needs. This motor home drives much more easily and comfortably than the gas motor home we owned before we bought this unit. There’s no fighting with the steering wheel or straining because the unit is underpowered. The Cummins 275 HP Diesel matched up with the Allison 6 Speed Transmission always provided adequate power and we were towing a full sized car through the mountains. I’m told the fuel economy of the smaller diesel is better than the new larger diesel engines. That’s a big plus. With only 39,300 miles the diesel engine is just broken in. A big issue for me when we bought this motor home was the exhaust brake. In our old gas motor home it was difficult to descend mountain grades safely. There were a few scary times when I wasn’t sure I was going to keep the unit under control. In the Monaco we came down the mountain grades with confidence. I wouldn’t drive in the mountains without the exhaust brake. The kitchen was what sold my wife on this motor home. The Corian kitchen is larger than the average motor home kitchen. It offers plenty of cabinet space and counter top work area (9 feet long). The dining chairs are much more comfortable that the booth seating in our old motor home. The extra large refrigerator/freezer was the most important feature that sold my wife on this motor home. We were amazed and delighted at how much food it would hold. Frequent shopping trips to the grocery store were unnecessary. The galley slide opens up a spacious living area where two people can move about without running into each other. Plenty of windows provide abundant light and ventilation. The window coverings offer two levels of privacy and shade. The kitchen and sofa slide out as one unit. This makes for a very functional kitchen and comfortable living area. We enjoyed watching cable TV and videos on the large color TV. After owning a motor home with no slide out, we found this feature to be a wonderful improvement. The private toilet was important to us, and the shower proved to be large enough for comfortable use. The new ten gallon gas/electric water heater always provided plenty of hot water. The ceramic tile flooring in the bath and kitchen is easy to keep clean. It was nice to have the washer/dryer available in the motor home although we always found good laundry facilities in the RV parks where we stayed. The bed is a full queen sized bed. We wanted an extra good bed so we bought a new pillow top mattress. There is a color TV in the bedroom. The sofa bed is surprisingly comfortable for a shorter person. The 50 amp electrical service provides all the power that is needed, and when we had to operate on 30 amp service we got along just fine. On 30 amp service the only limitation was that we could run only one air conditioner at a time. For us this was never a problem. When we needed to run the 7.5 KW quiet diesel generator, it worked very well. And, it really is amazingly quiet! I try to keep my vehicles well maintained. This motor home is ready for the road. The coach batteries are new. I will install new chassis batteries before the unit is sold. The rear tires are new. The evaporator and air cleaner have been serviced. The front wheel bearing have been packed. There are 5000 miles to drive before the next oil change is due. One of the real joys of motor home living is sitting and visiting under the awning. One of the benefits of this motor home is that the awning is new. It was replaced earlier this year and should provide good service for many years. We used a Master Tow tow dolly to tow our car. I’m including that along with the magnetic lights for the vehicle in tow. The dolly will handle any front wheel drive vehicle up to a full size sedan. With the tow dolly there’s no need to buy an expensive tow bar or transmission pump. It’s a little more work to load and unload the towed vehicle, but I never considered it a problem. I’m including my leveling blocks. The controls for the hydraulic leveling system are located in the drivers cockpit and are very easy to use, but sometimes extra leveling blocks are useful. Also, the sewer hoses, water hoses, water filter, portable sewage tank and spare light bulbs and fuses are included. It really is ready to go. If our Monaco seems like it might be what you’re looking for, please contact me so I can answer your quest ions. I understand that buying a motor home is a big decision, so I’ll only try to be helpful. It’s important to match your requirements with a unit that provides what you need at a reasonable price. I believe our Monaco offers a lot of value for the money. Thanks for taking the time to consider our motor home.
